Ever wondered what it feels like to chop 50 kilos of onions? Welcome to a little peek into my life and my passion!
I loved my job at the Discovery Channel in Delhi, where I would be glued to my desk, watching hours and hours of world class shows, meeting the best travel hosts in the business, scripting and editing promos, and planning path-breaking campaigns. It was exhilarating work, till one day I realized I was writing on an empty stomach. I was suddenly very hungry to get out there and consume the world of gastronomy. I quit my job and set out to work as a Kitchen Apprentice. My friends and family assigned ‘temporary’ status to my new obsession, but I persisted. I found myself an apprenticeship at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mumbai, the mesmerizing world of food and its evolution under the influence of different cultures and psychologies. And then, it happened. I hold my stint at The Four Seasons personally responsible for the birth of Miss Chhotee’s It was an ordinary tired evening,I headed home after my shift ended at 8pm. I explored my pantry and realized I had nothing I could toss up in less than ten minutes except instant noodles.
The irony of it all! After a crazy day of feeding people I had nothing to eat except chemically processed noodles? This set me off on a 56- course research. I discovered there were numerous people like me who consumed preservatives, artificial colours and flavours, day after day. The idea of preservative free packaged condiments, sauces and spreads was born. Late in 2012 I moved back to Delhi and setup Miss Chhotee’s, a gourmet range of international flavours. My recipes are my own concoctions, from sampling life across several countries. Currently I have an Italian basil pesto from Italy, hummus-a Middle Eastern dip, a Mexican salsa, a Mediterranean olive tapenade, and healthy oil free kale chips. Many other sumptuous flavours from around the world are soon to come.So after that bone-weary-dog- tired day, I hope you will cook up a homemade flavour some feast in the kitchen with Miss Chhotee’s, in under 10 minutes! Bon appetit!
